My Sunflower

I came across this song today and it made me smile.  This so describes my girl..

Sunflower smiling at the sun
Your time is gonna come
Keep your eyes on sunny skies
Your heart soars above the clouds
Sings a song out loud
For a brand new day - not so far away

Isn't it amazing - what you see
Isn't it amazing - what you do
Isn't it amazing - everything
Sunflowers in spring - they're just like you

Sunflower wipe away your tears
All your doubts and fears
You were born to fly - so high
Sunflower everybody knows
You're the one that grows in a sunny place
Such a happy face

Isn't it amazing - What you see
Isn't it amazing - what you do
Isn't it amazing - everything
Sunflowers in spring - they're just like you

Couch Based Philosophy

What I read from the couch today (because that is about all I can manage to accomplish right now):

The most dangerous thing you can do is to take any one impulse of your own nature and set it up as the thing you ought to follow at all costs. There is not one of them which will not make us into devils if we set it up as an absolute guide. You might think love of humanity in general was safe, but it is not. If you leave out justice you will find yourself breaking agreements and faking evidence in trials 'for the sake of humanity', and become in the end a cruel and treacherous man.
-C.S. Lewis "Mere Christianity"

Sort of makes you think about the problems facing our society today, huh?

At least in the midst of morning sickness I can be challenged by great minds like C.S. Lewis. How I love books.

A Wee Update

The past few weeks have been a little rough.  Between my husband's back issues, various sicknesses cropping up, a road trip, and trying to get settled back into a rhythm so we can (at some point!) finish school this year...well, we're all busy, aren't we?

This fall looks to be a busy one as well.  School is mostly planned out (and ordered, yay!) and I tried to make things simple.  My husband will be taking another (long) trip for work and will be gone for several+ weeks.  Also....Baby #5 will be (God willing) joining us in November.

Yep.  Things are busy around here, but we are so blessed.  Every time I contemplate the fact that I am going to be a mother to five children (plus two in heaven) I start to panic a little.  And then I smile and remember those sweet first few weeks with a newborn.  And I wonder who this little person growing inside me is.  What will he or she look like?  And are we going to have more boys or more girls?  And then I see the joy and excitement on my older children's faces.  And I remember that the greatest gift I can give to those I love the most is another person to love and who will love them.  Another friend for life.

So yes, I've not been feeling well (although this is probably the best first trimester I've ever had, mostly due to the fact that I figured out my queasiness triggers: sweets and low blood sugar).  I'm tired.  I'm cranky and emotional.  But I'm also filled with wonder at the good gifts of our Father.  And I'm in awe.  Complete awe.

Froggy's First Haircut

Maybe when you saw the last couple of posts, you wondered when I was going to cut my little boy's hair.  You see, he is my first baby with curls.  Not just curls, but ringlets.  And they are (or were) beautiful and I just couldn't bring myself to get it cut.

But it was getting ridiculous.  If I didn't manage to wet down his hair and brush it, it would turn into one big dreadlock in back.  Ridiculous.

So this morning I got up the gumption and did it.

My beautiful boy before:

During:

You can bet I insisted on saving those locks.

 And after:
He wasn't too sure about the whole experience, but he did sit patiently.

Doesn't he look just like a little man now?  Just.can't.stand.the.cuteness.

Happy Easter

We drove out to Louisiana for Easter this year and had a great time with my brother-in-law and his family.  The drive back was an extreme act of penance for all of us though.  Ladybug and Froggy both came down with a stomach bug before we left, and lets just say the van did not smell pretty by the time we were home.  We made it, we're safe and now we are recovering.

How about some pictures?

Happy Birthday Sunflower

My Sunflower is full of spunk, always has a smile on her face, and has inherited her fair share of her mother's stubbornness (ahem).

When the birthday girl asks for an ABC Monkey Cake, she gets an ABC Monkey Cake.

The kids made paper bag puppets at her birthday party and then put on a puppet show for our pleasure.

Happy Birthday Sunflower!
